New Caravan Towing Rules

What are the new rules for towing a caravan?

At Webbs we love our caravanning trips! Until now, UK towing legislation has restricted those who can tow with their car, but as of 16th December 2021, there were significant changes to these rules. And the good news is – more people can now enjoy the freedom of towing than ever before!

To avoid any confusion, we have explained what the new rules are and who they affect. If you have any further queries, please do get in touch and we will be happy to help you.

Did you pass your driving test after the 1st January 1997? GREAT NEWS – *You are now able to tow up to 3,500kg without taking an additional test! (*Subject to towing vehicle).

DVLA will update your driving licence records to show that you are, by law, allowed to tow trailers. Upon getting a new driving licence, you will get category BE added – there’s no need to contact DVLA as this will be done automatically.

The incredible world of caravanning is now more accessible than ever before. If you’ve always been tempted to invest in your own home on wheels, then there’s never been a better time to find out more.
